Solar System Output Calculator: What Will a 1 kW to 20 kW System Run?

Already know the size of the solar system you have, or the one you were quoted? This calculator shows how many kWh it makes per day, month and year in your country, and exactly what it can power: lighting, refrigerators and freezers, TVs and computers, the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, central AC or mini-splits, a heat pump, an electric water heater, a pool pump and EV charging.

Tap a size or type your own, choose your country, and the calculator builds a realistic home mix that fits the system. Change any quantity or hours to match your home, and the bar shows how much of the daily output you are using. Add a battery to see the backup hours at night, and your electricity price to see what the electricity is worth each month.

How the numbers work

kWh per day = System kW × Peak sun hours × 0.80. The 0.80 allows for heat, dust, wiring and inverter losses. A 6 kW system in Phoenix (6.6 peak sun hours) makes about 31.7 kWh a day, roughly 960 kWh a month. The same system in London (2.9 peak sun hours) makes about 13.9 kWh a day.

“How many, all day” shows how many of one appliance the day’s energy can run for its normal hours. “At once, noon” shows how many can run at the same time when the sun is strongest, limited by the panels and the inverter. Both matter: at midday a 5 kW system delivers about 4 kW, enough to run an electric dryer and the fridge together, but its whole daily output of about 20 kWh would be used up by one 3-ton central AC running for six hours plus a few small loads.
